I love the ornament of Eric! During the time of holiday loss you are keeping him with you right on the tree! I just learned of your Substack and I subscribed to it. I lost my daughter Alix when she was twenty-five years old and reading your post helps me. I look forward to reading your future articles and your upcoming memoir. A fellow bereaved mother, Julie
Julie, it’s so meaningful to hear from other bereaved parents. Thank you for taking the time to connect, and I’m so sorry for the loss of your daughter. Their spirits are still here with us, all around and within us (at least that’s what feels true for me). It’s always such an honor to hear that my writing helps and comforts others. Wishing you a beautiful holiday filled with love. xoxo
I also feel that my daughter's spirit is still with me. Especially because I have received incredible signs from her. I wish you a beautiful holiday as well, surrounded by the love of those here physically and in spirit, and a wonderful 2025!
I love that you have the same sentiment on your car, Marisa! I hope I wasn't unclear--I encourage folks to preorder (or order) from their local bookshops! It's just that IF folks are using Amazon, I recently learned that preorders don't actually appear as orders ON launch day (which affects the book's ranking), so techincally ordering on launch day has a greater impact. Thanks for pointing that out!
I loved your hermit crab essay in Hippocampus! My hermit crab, An Index of Motherhood was in the Sept/Oct edition. I am honored to be hanging out in print with the likes of you! Tiffany Doerr Guerzon

I just read your hermit crab essay. You captured so well that anxiety peculiar to always being “ready” for the worst, but we’re never truly ready.
Thank you so much, Marie. This means a lot. 🩷

Wow, Tiffany, I feel the same! I just read and commented on yours. So simple on the surface, deeply complex beneath it all masterfully done!
And thanks so much for the kind words. 🩷
The magnet on the back of my car that I made also says You Matter! I love it.
Curious why is it better to order from Amazon and on launch day? I would have thought a local bookstore would be better.
